Hebron is a historic Arab City with a unique authentic heritage. The Hebron Rehabilitation Committee was set up, by Presidential decree, in August 1996 to preserve Hebron’s cultural heritage.
The objectives of the Hebron Rehabilitation Committee are:
- To preserve the cultural heritage by maintaining the old buildings as well as preserving the whole urban fabric;
- To revive the Old City by consolidating ties with the population, reusing abandoned buildings, upgrading the infrastructure and connecting the Old City to the rest of City;
To counter and limit illegal Israeli settlements, inside the Old City, by surrounding settlements with inhabited buildings to prevent the horizontal expansion of settlements and to avert the urban interconnection of these settlements by increasing Arab demographic density between them.
